2025
Year in Review
A celebration of creativity, learning, and unforgettable moments from the year
Last updated: December 1st, 2025
Hey there! As 2025 comes to a close, I want to take a moment to celebrate what has been an awesome first year of Prosford Studio. When the year began, I had zero students and an empty studio space waiting to be filled with learning, theatre and the good kind of drama!
A huge shout out to my OGs - my very first students to jump on board in each of my group classes: Miya, Thomas, Felix, Litia, Emmie, Tove Tui, Yasmin, Julia and Saxon. I'm so proud of how far you've come this year and thank you for paving the way for the next students to join the crew!
Setting up the studio
Term 1
Musical Theatre
Term 1 Musical Theatre kicked off with Wicked and The Wizard of Oz. How good was our little dance to the bridge section of 'One Short Day'? I'll have to admit that I still stumble over the words but our moves were on point!
Writing Club
Writing Club started with a bang! Ideas about 'The Day Aliens Kidnapped My Teacher' were flying around so thick and fast that I had to introduce the talking gluestick so that we could manage whose turn was next!
Drama
In Drama, we experimented with how we could portray different characters and everyone took a turn at playing each role (the bossy one was the crowd favourite!).
Term 2
Musical Theatre
In Term 2 Musical Theatre, we dove into the worlds of Moana and Mufasa. We brought them together into a megamix which was a whopping 6 minutes long!
Writing Club
With two Writing Clubs, we jumped into lots of writing genres from descriptive, to persuasive adverts, narratives, letters, and the very first edition of the end-of-term 'Great Writing Challenge'!
Drama
In Drama, we turned good old classic fairytales into twisted fairytales, and you can bet that they didn't all end with 'happily ever after'!
Term 3
Musical Theatre
Sometimes you have to be a little bit Naughty! Our Musical Theatre crew really stepped up their game this term with the punchy musical Matilda. This was the first time students performed in front of parents without my help and they absolutely smashed it!
Writing Club
Time travel tales kicked off the term before we jumped into script writing, creating our very own SpongeBob SquarePants episodes! Spoiler alert: DoodleBob got up to more trouble, SpongeBob failed to pass his boating test yet again and Gary the snail was the only character with some common sense!
Drama
Team building, improvisation and tongue twister challenges filled the early weeks of Drama before we began devising our own performance based on the book 'The King Who Banned the Dark'. We used drama conventions like freeze frames, internal dialogue, mime, and choral work to tell the story and explore the themes of power and manipulation.
Tutoring
Saturday tutoring sessions were in full swing! From memorising times tables to handwriting drills, to converting between improper fractions and mixed numbers, everyone was hard at work!
Term 4
Musical Theatre
You can't go wrong with a classic! This term we threw it back to Annie the musical and tackled a song, dance AND three scenes - look at how far we've come! Our older students did a mix of Hamilton, Mean Girls and Matilda, and took on the challenge of learning a four-part harmony to the latest radio hit 'Where Is My Husband'.
Writing
A crowd favourite this term was our 'Describe it' challenge using illustrations of creatures by artist and writer Shaun Tan. We couldn't pass up the opportunity to write about the Louvre Jewellery Heist - what we think REALLY happened (based on the facts, of course!). We're currently deep into making a shared book about original mythical creatures and can't wait to see the end result!
Drama
Not only was Shaun Tan's work a hit in Writing, but it was the source of our main project in Drama! Exploring the themes of belonging and the loss of wonder, we again drew on all the drama conventions in our kete to portray our version of the story as the protagonist tries to help the Lost Thing find "home". Alongside this, we kept up with our improvisation practice, including our favourite improv games 'Bus Stop' and 'The Dinner Party'.
Tutoring
Everyone kept up the great work in their Maths and Literacy sessions. We tackled BEDMAS, Algebra, and Measurement and revised previous topics from throughout the year.
Wrap Up
At the time of writing, we've got two weeks left of classes and plenty to be excited about, from our informal end-of-term Musical Theatre performance for parents, to publishing our Mythical Creatures books, the return of the 'Great Writing Challenge', and deciding how to end our devised version of 'The Lost Thing'.
Thank you SO MUCH to everyone who has been part of this first year of Prosford Studio! It's been a busy year starting this up while working at school, but it has been a dream come true. To my OGs: You have been an absolute joy to work with, and I am buzzing to start planning our classes for next year! I can't wait to start new classes and meet even more awesome, kind, and creative people next year and grow this little community.
Keep learning, keep creating, and keep growing.
